He observed it fromt he distance, but in his old age, he needed a closer look to be sure his senses weren't deceiving him. Once he confirmed his initial thoughts, he lingered at the border, taking in all the surrounding scents. There was nothing. He waited a few minutes more before releasing a long, drawn-out call. There was nothing.
Auds fell back as the brute lowered his head. Slowly, and very cautiously, he set one paw over the border. There was nothing. After another short pause, Mardoc came to the conclusion that this place had been abandoned, and trotted through the waterfall and into the place of his birth.
He shook the water from his coat, and pranced about the den, remembering all the things from his puppy days. A warm feeling overcame him, but then... he remembered his Father. He slowly lowered himself to the ground, and silently awaited for some other soul to come wandering in. He desperately needed some company.

Bowing her head she sniffed the ground pawing at the soil lightly, she had been under the impression it was free land though the scent of another wolf made her uneasy. She'd been avoiding pack territories all together, after the few she'd bumped into on the west coast she was not in a hurry to invade another's personal space. The scar on her back was a constant reminder of how unfriendly alpha's could be.
Was it simply fear or instinct that warned her against continuing onwards? Either way her curiosity won out, following her nose cautiously the female pricked her ears as a howl echoed throughout the forest floor. The scent by now she'd realized was isolated, which was a comfort one male wouldn't be a problem if things turned sour.
The scent stopped a few feet short of a waterfall, she came to a standstill looking around for any sign of the wolf she'd been tracking. Having a perfect nose was all good and well until it came to water, it made the scent harder to pick out if you could find it at all.

Auds perked up as a voice rang out over the lands. Before him stood a female, whose hues weren't unlike his own. It didn't take him very long to decide whether or not to alert her of his pressence, but it took a bit for the aging wolf to lift himself up off the cave ground.
He slowly, cautiously, and gracefully came out from his hiding place and greeting the fae with a proper bow. She was a tad bit smaller then he was, and Mardoc was worried about intimidating the gal, which is something his family was known for. "I bid you welcome, fair one. My name is Mardoc, and you might be...?" He spoke softly, gently, and waited patiently for her answer.

Examining the male that stood before her she made the assumption he was no threat, he almost seemed charming which was something in she'd not seen in a while. A Mexican Gray Wolf not that his colour showed it he seemed unique in that way, she guessed he was two or three years her senior yet seemed to have the grace of a young male. It was nice to have come across a wolf who hadn't attempted to sever her neck on first glance.
“It's a pleasure to meet you... I'm Ella ”she replied sitting down by the river bank, “...I apologize for the intrusion I was led to believe these lands had long been abandoned” she continued, admiring the dense forest surrounding them.

"You did not intrude, Ella. These lands are abandoned, I was just... revisiting for old time's sake. Not so sure whether or not to take over the lands that caused so much pain." He flashed her a kind stare and proceeded to join the fae by the river. He gave quick glances in her direction every so often, but kept his attention on the rapidly flowing river before them; he didn't want to cause her to have distressing thoughts and leave, for he had been alone for a long, long time.
"So... does Ella have a pack, or pups, or anything of the sort?"

“Once upon a time... my family were chased from their homelands by their alpha's; the male saw my father and growing brother as too much of a threat I suppose. Deforestation on the south coast meant we were too close to a human settlement for their liking, within a week they were all dead” she replied slightly dazed by the light hitting the swirling water, “As for pups... maybe someday” she mused stretching slightly. “What about yourself? You seem to know a lot about this land, did you live here?” she asked trying not to pry.

He flashed her another quick glace, and nodded his head in response to her inquiry. "My father was the first to own these lands... he was such a brutal animal, but I must admit, he knew how to keep things under control." He stood up to fetch a drink from the tempting water before continuing on. "I had a mate once... we never got around to pups, though." Again, his eyes wandered toward the fae, studying her features and taking in her scent, but the memories of his lost love interrupted his train of thought.
